Yesterday, the citys first underground disaster shelter integrating protection against multiple disaster types was officially accepted and put into use, filling the gap in large-scale underground emergency shelters in the area.
Located in the core area of the old town, the shelter is 12 meters deep with a total construction area of 1,800 square meters, capable of accommodating 1,200 people for emergency evacuation at the same time. Internally divided by functions, it has sheltered living areas, material reserve warehouses, medical rescue stations and other zones. Equipped with emergency power generation, independent water supply and air purification systems, it can withstand multiple disasters such as earthquakes, floods and extreme weather, ensuring people s basic living needs for 72 hours.
According to the head of the Emergency Management Bureau, the shelter adopts a modular design and can be used as an underground parking lot in normal times, while completing functional conversion within 15 minutes in case of disasters. Next, evacuation guidance signs will be improved, and emergency drills for residents will be carried out to ensure this underground safety capsule truly plays its role in disaster prevention and evacuation.
