Recently, the first batch of 3 standardized emergency shelters in our city has officially passed acceptance and been put into use. Covering the core areas in the eastern, western and southern parts of the urban area, these shelters can accommodate 12,000 people for temporary settlement at the same time.
All the put-into-use shelters are located in open areas such as school playgrounds and civic squares, and are built in strict accordance with the national Technical Standards for the Construction of Emergency Shelters. Inside the shelters, functional zones including accommodation areas, medical areas and material reserve areas have been divided. They are equipped with materials such as folding beds, emergency lighting and drinking water purification equipment. Meanwhile, a 24-hour on-duty system has been established to ensure that the shelters can be activated and used" in case of emergencies.
According to the person in charge of the Municipal Emergency Management Bureau, the construction of emergency shelters will be continuously promoted in the next step. It is planned to achieve full coverage of urban sub-districts by the end of this year, and carry out regular emergency drills to enhance the publics awareness of disaster prevention and risk avoidance as well as their self-rescue capabilities, thus effectively building a solid urban safety defense line.
